Ar. Sumit Maity completed his B.Arch from Calcutta University in 1991, graduating as First Class First. He later pursued a Master’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning (M.Sc) from Edinburgh, UK.

After graduation, he moved to Delhi and joined the internationally acclaimed architectural firm M/s Raj Rewal Associates, where he had also interned during his student years. Over five years, he gained invaluable experience working on prestigious projects such as the World Bank Regional Office, British High Commission, Parliament Library, and the Ismaili Centre in Lisbon, among others.

Following this, he worked with another legendary firm, M/s Stein Doshi Bhalla (D), for three years, where he contributed to several large-scale institutional and industrial projects.

In 1999, he co-founded Sumit Maity Architects with Ar. Shalini Maity. Since its inception, he has served as the Principal Architect and Proprietor of the practice.

The firm quickly gained national recognition by winning their first National Open Architectural Competition in 1999 for a mega housing project by the Delhi Development Authority. Within few years, they secured another major win in a two-stage international competition open to SAARC countries, for the Bharat Vandana Prangan—a landmark project spread across 400 acres in New Delhi.

Ar. Sumit Maity briefly served as a visiting faculty at the Sushant School of Art and Architecture and has delivered invited talks at various prestigious institutions and forums, including:

  • TVB School of Habitat Studies, New Delhi
  • Indian Institute of Architects Convention, Surajkund
  • BMS College of Architecture, Bangalore
  • NWPBC Convention, JNTU, Hyderabad

He has also served as an eminent jury member at key industry platforms such as ACETECH exhibitions and I-DAC many a time.
